How i dropped a stone in 11 days !
After coming back from the Marriott in Sharm the other week and trying to bankrupt them with my exploits at the all inclusive meals i had a realisation….
Miles, you look pretty damn awful !
Now dont get me wrong, i had only put on a few pounds but the mirror made each one of them look like a sack of potatoes !
So i wanted to drop a few pounds and based on a previous experiment after i snapped my achilles and had to control my weight i did the following
1. intermittent fasting – 16 hours per day from 9pm approx till approx 1pm
2. took 3 tablespoons of healthspan high potency cod liver oil every morning
3. had a phd greens 7 drink sprinkled with turmeric and cinnamon every morning
4. 3 litres of water per day
5. 50 minute fasted walk when i got up
6. trained with heavy weights 4 x per week (chest, shoulders, triceps, session 1 – back, biceps session 2 – legs session 3) obviously one of the sessions got repeated each week.
7. organic black coffee every morning when i woke up (from lidl of all places)
8. although i dont track calories per se, my estimate is i was consuming approx 2500-2700 per day.
9. most calories were consumed at night in a larger evening meal. I find this helps me sleep and for most people this will stop snacking as late a t night is usual snack time for most.
10. lunch daily was 2 chicken breasts, side salad and cous cous.
11. evening meals varied from salmon, tuna steaks, fillet steak, steak burgers with sides of avocado, stir fry, sweet potato mostly.
12. all evening meals had chillis mixed into them, (slightly thermogenic so raise metabolism)
13. zma tablets before bed to replenish zinc and magnesium which also helps recovery and sleep.
14. had breakfast on the sunday but not on the saturday so 6 days fasting.
15. kept sleep to 8 hours per night so bed by 10.30.
Although you might think you will starve to death its not quite how this works. eating nothing in the morning other than some fish oil keeps the brain ticking over and stops me feeling bloating and sluggish so i feel sharp and when i want to feel heavy and sluggish for bed i have a large evening meal to tick that box.
I have found fasting works well for up to a month but know some people do it permanently which isnt for me me. I personally like 2 weeks stints but on this occasion the weight fell off that quick i stopped after 11 days.
Fasting certainly might not work for your lifestyle and particular circumstances but after lots of trial and error it works well for me and my body quickly gets used to no breakfast and forget about eating till 1pm.
Fasting isnt an excuse for smashing a full size dominos pizza every night (sadly), you still eat the right foods but simply in a shorter window and with bigger evening meals (in my case).
